Katsu-Ya of Japan
Classic roots, modern taste.
Our Story
Katsu-Ya of Japan is deeply rooted in Japanese heritage, shaped by the vision of founder Hiroyuki Nakashima. Hiroyuki began his culinary journey in his brother’s sushi bar in Japan, and after moving to the United States, he embraced the opportunity to take over a Japanese steakhouse in 1985. Shortly after, he introduced a sushi bar—an innovative addition for the Midwest at the time, inspired by his experiences in Japan. Today, the Nakashima family proudly operates two restaurants in Appleton, bringing authentic and vibrant Japanese dining to Northeastern Wisconsin.
In Japanese culture, acts of kindness, gratitude, and hospitality are often shared through food. As both the family and the business continue to grow, Katsu-Ya of Japan remains dedicated to honoring this tradition.
“From our family to yours, thank you for allowing us the privilege to share our experience with you.”
